Poetry is a very old literary genre with varied forms, written as well in verses as in proses and in which the dominant importance is attached to the “form”, i.e. with meaning. Poetry is a language arts, the poet is a creator, an inventor of expressive forms.
As the time go by Poetry became and especially in our contemporary time, a very sophisticated art which is crossed little by little of its popular roots; however we practice poetry very largely, they are many blogs, many readings or festivals which are devoted to poetry.
Poetry is well more than a manner to work on the text, it’s a language art. The etymology allows to approach the meaning of the term “poetry”: it comes from the Greek poiein, who means “to create” or “to manufacture”; so we can define poetry as a practice which uses the language (all ways of the language) to manufacture a poem as an object is manufactured. The poem is the reflection of the mind of the poet at a moment of his life.
